PRESIDENT'S LETTER
After
70 years of operation, First National Bank in Green Forest remains a
locally owned bank dedicated to serving its customers.
First National Bank Green Forest was formed in 1931 from the merger of
two banks, First National and Citizens State, both of which were closed
for 30 days by President Franklin Roosevelt because of the Great
Depression. Together, their assets totaled about $200,000.
Bank directors first named J.R. (Ray) Anderson cashier and later in
1942, he was named president. Then in 1978, Mr. Anderson turned the
leadership over to his nephew, Stephen Stafford, who succeeded him as
president.
Stephen Stafford's father, J. Frank Stafford and his uncle, Clyde L.
Stafford, joined the bank as vice presidents in the 1940's and retired
in 1986. They remained on the board of directors until their deaths.
First National Bank in Green Forest began an expansion program in 1982
to improve customer service in Carroll County. In that year, an Auto
Bank was opened in Green Forest. Rapid expansion followed in the next
decade with a Berryville office opening in 1991, a Harrison office in
1994 and a Harrison South Office in 1997.
In September, 2003 our expansion continued into Madison County with the
purchase of Madison Bank and Trust with offices in Kingston and
Huntsville. Asset totals have increased from $50 million in 1983 to $285
million in 2003. The bank now employs over 80 people.
First National Bank Green Forest continues to offer a full-line of
financial services. From checking and savings accounts, to personal,
farm, or business loans, we provide many different services for our
customers. We offer 24-hour touchtone banking in English and Spanish
along with our online internet services.
One thing that will not change at First National Bank of Green Forest,
however, is putting the customer first.
